Supporting Our Mission

As a philanthropic organization, P.E.O. supports six philanthropies that include ownership of Cottey College, a woman's college in Nevada, Missouri, and five programs that provide higher educational assistance through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. 

 
P.E.O. Project Statistics
 

Our local chapters and members have shown dedication, hard work and financial contributions for our projects and recipients. By working together the following results have been achieved:

P.E.O. has given over $398 million in financial assistance to more than 119,000 recipients of the ELF, IPS, PCE, PSA and STAR projects:
  • P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund loans are $235.9 million since 1907.
  • P.E.O. International Peace Scholarships are $45.4 million since 1949.
  • P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education grants are $67.6 million since 1973.
  • P.E.O. Scholar Awards are $32.1 million since 1991.
  • P.E.O. STAR Scholarships are $17.2 million since 2009.

In addition, P.E.O. has owned and supported Cottey College since 1927. Cottey is an independent, baccalaureate-granting liberal arts and sciences institution that develops leadership qualities and a global perspective within its students throughout the entirety of their academic and co-curricular experience.

State Projects
 
Local chapters in Mississippi, through their hard work and financial contributions, have helped women throughout Mississippi reach their educational goals.   

The Miriam Scarborough Scholarship assists a female MS high school graduate attend Cottey College or a college or university in the state of Mississippi. 

Mississippi State Chapter has given financial assistance to 100 recipients of the Miriam Scarborough Scholarship since 1973 totaling $121,000.00.

The Lynette Curry Cottey Scholarship assists a female MS student attend Cottey College.  The first scholarship of $1,000 was awarded April 2022.
